UNIVERSITY CENTER −The Delta College board of trustees will recognize numerous students for their achievements. Among those honored will be members of the Delta Collegiate staff who won statewide and national awards this year.

The Collegiate staff took home 20 awards at the 2019 Michigan Community College Press Association (MCCPA) conference.

On the national level, the Feb. 27 episode of The Delta Beat, which is the Collegiate’s online newscast, won the David L. Adams Apple Award for Best Online Newscast at the 2019 College Media Association Spring Conference in New York City.

Video editor Michael Pieper, page designer Robynn Verhaeghe, videographer Kevin Lazzaro, editor-in-chief Joe Thornton, news editor Michael Piwowarski and reporter Zach Parfeniuk were all featured in the winning newscast.

In addition, copy editor Franklin Thornton won third place at an on-site copy editing contest.

Members of the Collegiate team will be present at this next Delta College board of trustees meeting, which takes place Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. in Room B 151.

Other items on the meeting agenda include the approval of various campus projects (such as parking lot and roadway repairs, and a sculpture project at the new Delta Saginaw campus) and board of trustees committee appointments.
