Sustainability programs featured at board meeting

UNIVERSITY CENTER – Delta College’s sustainability programs were featured in the monthly board meeting held Dec. 12. Linda Petee, Sustainability and Risk Management Coordinator, and Janis Kendziorski, Associate Professor of Accounting, led a presentation regarding the college’s utilization of sustainability in and out of the classroom.

“Sustainability is identified as one of the college’s strategic focus areas. Overall, we’ve worked to expand sustainability through the college community and across the curriculum by increasing the number of sustainability courses and creating the campus as a learning lab opportunity,” says Kendziorski.

In the presentation, Petee mentioned the awards Delta has received in the past for going “green,” the Green Cleaning Award being one of the greatest accomplishments.

“We were the first community college in the United States to receive the Green Cleaning Award in 2007. It looks at every aspect of your building from how you clean your windows to what you’re using in your vacuum cleaners,” says Petee.

Another presentation was made by Director of Financial Aid Lisa Baker on the Student Self-Service where Delta students are able to access all of their financial aid information in one location on the student portal.

Senate President Justin Bamberg presented the revisions to Senate Policy 2.090 Sabbatical Leaves and Grants, which was approved by the board. The 2018 Board of Trustees meeting schedule was approved along with the 2021 academic calendar.

The next board meeting will be on Delta’s main campus Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018. The dinner meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in room N-007.
